Size Cooking

Sizing is carried out to reinforce and impart temporary strength to yam so that it is more capable to withstand abrasive action of weaving.

Steam is directly injected in the size tank to obtain a controlled temperature of 60 oC. This is low temperature and requires saturated steam with pressure below 1 bar(g). Flash steam generated from condensate recovery can be utilized for this purpose. Temperature control is important and thus steam flow using Self Actuating Temperature Regulator and Steam Injector for effective heating of the medium with minimum steam consumption would take total care for the process needs.

Recuperator / Mercerizer

Here, mercerizing with Caustic gives the fabric permanent luster. Steam is directly used and consumption is approximately 500 kg/hr with steam pressure of about 1 bar (g). Self Actuating Temperature Regulator should be installed on steam supply line to automatically control the steam flow and maintain the process temperature.

Vacuum Breaker should also be installed to prevent caustic raising in steam pipe while isolating valve is closed.
